What is Tanglaw?
Tanglaw is the official Learning Management System of Compassion Philippines.
It contains various learning materials on different topics to help equip church partners for holistic child development. We offer ideas, learning opportunities and relationships to help equip people who work with children-at-risk.
Why did Compassion International build this site?
Compassion International serves 1.7 million children who live in extreme poverty; however, there are more than 400 million children in extreme poverty. What about the rest of them? Although the challenge is bigger than Compassion, it is not bigger than the Church. By building Tanglaw, Compassion Philippines offers knowledge, tools and experience from over sixty years of holistic child development, and creates a place for others to do the same. Together we hope to equip the Church to release ALL children from poverty and holistically disciple them to reach their full potential.
Who can share resources on Tanglaw?
Anyone! This is a collaborative community meant for sharing resources and ideas. In order for content to be posted and available for access, they must meet certain criteria. See our submission guidelines.
What happens when I submit a resource?
Once a resource is submitted, it will be reviewed by a resource curator. You will receive a confirmation email that the resource has been submitted; you will also be notified when the status changes from “Pending” to “Approved”,” “Needs Revision” or “Not Appropriate”. If you receive notice that the resource has been “Approved,” it will be accessible on the Discover page of Tanglaw. If it is “Needs Revision,” you will receive instructions on how to make necessary revisions and re-submit the resource. If it is “Not Appropriate”, there will be an explanation from the reviewer as to why this decision was made.
What should I write in the description field?
Since many Tanglaw users have low bandwidth, the purpose of the resource description is to give users all the important information about the resource before they download it. To write a complete description, you should write 3-6 sentences about the format of the resource (is it a curriculum? Is it a book? Is it a video?), the content of the resource (What information does it contain? What is it about?),
What kind of resources can I share?
The aim of Tanglaw is to help equip the church worldwide to carry out holistic child development. As you consider which of your resources to share on Tanglaw, they should address children, poverty, or the role of the Church regarding either children or poverty. You should also have the permissions to share it publicly.
If your resource is text-based, please submit it in PDF format.
What if I want to remove a resource that I submitted before?
No problem! You can use the Contact Us page to submit a note to the Tanglaw team, asking them to remove the resource.
I have a newly revised version of a resource I submitted to Tanglaw. What do I do?
We are excited to have your updated resource on Tanglaw! Submit the resource using the “Share a resource” button on the Discover page, but please indicate in the Title that the work is revised. Also make a note in the last section of the submission form, Notes to Reviewer, that this is a revised version of a previously shared resource.
Should I use the “Share a resource” button or the “Share a series” button?
A “Series” is a set of resources that all belong together. For example, if you had three resources that are all written to go to together, this should be uploaded as a series. The My Plan for Tomorrow Toolkit resources are uploaded as a series because they are designed to be used together. For resources like this, use the “Share a series” button. Otherwise, you can use the “Share a resource” button to share individual resources.
What is Holistic Child Development?
Holistic Child Development addresses all aspects of the child’s development, not just one part. By guiding children through a program that develops them intellectually, physically, socio-emotionally, and spiritually, they are given the best opportunity to overcome the obstacles in their past and achieve all that God has in store for their lives.
What types of courses are offered by the HCD Institute?
The HCD Institute offers short introductory courses for practitioners just beginning to work with children and more advanced courses for workers who are looking to increase their knowledge of child development philosophy and practice.
I know other people that could benefit from HCD training… how do I do that?
You can invite them to join Tanglaw and take free online courses at the HCD Institute!
How do I start a Connect Discussion?
On the Tanglaw home page, click on Connect. The Connect page has a list of all the discussions that are going on; you can search to see if anyone has already been talking about your topic, or you can click the button that says “Start a Discussion” to get one going!
How do I get the mobile app?
Search for "For Children presented by Compassion" on Google Play or click here.
Does the mobile app keep in sync with what I do on the website?
Yes. If you have an account (created on the website or on the app), the platform will track you as one user so you can get to your classes, libraries, and anything else connected to your account regardless of the device you are using.
