The lesson “I Am Unique” teaches children about the differences in each individual, as well as to recognize God-given characteristics and traits in self and others. Each child will identify in detail, his or her own physical features, such as face shape, hair color, etc., that make him or her unique. Using artful and creative composition, each child will create a visual representation (painted, drawn, sculpted, etc.) of his or her own self-portrait. Based on the characteristics represented, the group will work together to guess which representation belongs to each child. The lesson includes guided instructions for the teacher, including preparation, a script, and suggested activities to facilitate further learning in a fun and interactive manner. This lesson is designed for children between 9-11 years, and is the third lesson in the 1st Year “Self-Awareness” unit.
