The lesson “Putting Others First” teaches children about interacting with other people in a healthy and compassionate manner, emphasizing respect, kindness, compassion, and serving others. The children will verbalize situations where it is appropriate to choose putting others first over self. Each child will demonstrate empathic thoughts and responses towards others and determine one strategy to use that promotes delayed gratification. The children will also learn about how Jesus put them first by dying on the cross and He wants to emulate this attitude of servitude. The lesson includes guided instructions for the teacher, including preparation, a script, and suggested activities to facilitate further learning in a fun and interactive manner. This lesson is designed for children between 9-11 years, and is the 36th lesson in the 2nd year Core Curriculum Set and part of the “Leadership Preparation” unit.
